Billie Eilish Debuted A New Hairstyle And Literally Broke The Internet

Given her star status, it would be strange if Billie Eilish did something that didn’t break the internet these days. From serving looks at numerous awards shows, to her performances that go viral upon upload, the singer’s resume continues to be a list of accolades that betray her young age. Not that she needed anymore clout to her highly followed Instagram account, but after debuting a new ‘do, Billie has sent the Internet into a frenzy once again.

As Billie has often discussed in interviews, her hairstyle is more than just a trending look. Rather, like most of us, it serves to reflect her mental state, as she admits that her connection to her hair is more than purely aesthetic. Just recently she defended her two-year run of jet back hair and neon green roots. After fans complained (no, seriously) that Billie hadn’t changed her hair in forever, she clapped back: “This is the longest I’e had the same hair colour since I was 13 and that’s on mental stability and growth. Leave me alone.”

She added, “It’s called not being depressed anymore pls just be happy for me.”

After releasing her documentary, The World’s A Little Blurry which explored the singer’s struggles with mental health and identity, she told fans that her next aesthetic change would be more than just a desire to embrace a new trend. “I’m changing it after the doc comes out…It’ll be the end of an era,” she said, before adding, “I’ma give you a new era.”

And that new era has come. Over the weekend, and after bringing home the Grammy for Record Of The Year, Billie posted a photo to Instagram of her new ‘do: a choppy, slightly ‘80s-inspired cut with platinum blonde locks. Naturally, the Internet broke as a result and fans are still unable to look at the picture calmly.

The post took just six minutes to surpass one million likes on Instagram and became the fastest picture in history to achieve such a thing on the platform.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Billie revealed that she’s often struggled with an identity crisis. “I did some radio show performance, and the entire show I felt like I was pretending to be Billie Eilish,” said the star. “I completely wasn’t looking at myself, as myself. I was just totally seeing it from not my own perspective, and it was so weird. It happened multiple times, at award shows and whatever. I just felt like a parody of myself.”

She added, “It’s just, you forget I’m literally 18. It’s funny that I’m expected to have found myself, and stick with it.”

Finally, it seems Billie is embracing her true persona. As for the new era of Billie Eilish, we’re excited to what it brings forth creatively from the artist.
