Mandy Moore Dyed Her Hair "a Blonde Shade She's Never Done Before"

Mandy Moore is certainly no stranger to being blonde — I mean, just take a look at her most iconic roles from the early days of her acting career (ahem, The Princess Diaries). But after a years-long stint as a brunette, Moore has returned to a buttery new color, and it's the lightest hair she's had since 2005.

"Back to blonde for summer," Moore wrote in the caption of am Instagram photo slideshow from May 19. The shade is wildly different than the platinums, yellows, and strawberries she's worn in the past — this one's got very subtle dimension and just a hint of a rose gold undertone.

This night-to-day transformation was done by hairstylist and colorist Ashley Streicher, who actually used drugstore dyes to achieve the look. More specifically, Streicher applied Garnier Nutrisse's Nourishing Color Creme in Dark Natural Blonde 70 Almond Creme to Moore's hair and later followed that up with the brand's Color Reviver Hair Mask in Cool Blonde. So, if you have pre-lightened hair or hair that's naturally light brown or blonde, you could very easily achieve Moore's sunny new look at home.

Just be sure to use a professional tip for the best application possible. As Los Angeles colorist Guy Tang previously told Allure, the key to amazing at-home hair color is to divide hair into the smallest sections possible and saturate each strand of hair as much as possible with your dye of choice and an applicator brush. "[You can] really push the color brush into the hair to ensure the color application is saturated and even," he advises. "The process may look tedious but it is what gives the best results."

Unfortunately, using the same hair dye as Moore won't make you look exactly like her — but we can all dream, can't we?
