Jennifer Lopez Cut Her Hair Off Before the AMAs

We're never surprised when Jennifer Lopez changes up her hairstyle, but we are always delighted. Just when we think the quadruple threat (singing, acting, dancing, beauty-branding) has settled into a longer hairstyle — like the one she's been sporting for the last few months in both straight and wavy ways — she goes and chops her hair into one of her go-to chic above-the-shoulder styles. And she timed the latest lob for her appearance on Sunday night's American Music Awards.

Before her AMA performance with Maluma, Chris Appleton (of course!) transformed JLo's hair into shorter style that was purposely styled to look like it hadn't full air-dried yet. "Nothing better than a fresh cut for fall," Appleton said in a press release. "Adding a wet-look finish as a sexy, wearable texture that when done right is a beautiful glam look."

The Color Wow ambassador used the brand's Dream Coat For Curly Hair on Lopez's wet hair before and drying it with a diffuser. At that point, he applied Color Wow Pop & Lock Frizz-Control and Glossing Serum in two-inch sections and used the BaByliss Pro Nano Titanium Curling Iron  to create a loose wave. He finish with a generous dose of Color Wow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray.

Lopez visited colorist Tracey Cunningham before she got her new cut, refreshing her signature honey-brown hair color. "It's ideal for someone who wants to stay consistent with their overall look, but still wants the option to go a little darker or lighter if they please," Cunningham, a Redken ambassador, said in a statement. "A color like this does require maintenance, so if you're not prepared to visit the salon every six weeks, ask your colorist to create a bit of a root for a natural looking grow out. I use Redken Chromatics and Redken Shades EQ Gloss for the color recipe and Redken Flash Lift for the highlights."

Needles to say, Lopez's makeup was flawless, too. Makeup artist Mary Phillips used Pat McGrath Labs products for a look she calls "sultry graphic liner with a modern ‘60s twist." She got that look by blending Permagel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in Xtreme Black into the crease and on the upper and lower lash line, and then sweeping Mothership V: Bronze Seduction Palette’s Entrapment on the lid followed by Eyedols in Statuesque. The shade Disobedient was used in the crease and lower lash line, and Astral Ghost Orchid was placed in the inner corners and under the brow. Finally, Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner was used to line the upper lash line, and Dark Star Mascara cover the lashes.

It's entirely possible, being the extension fan that she is, that we'll see JLo with long hair for her next public appearance, but until then, we'll be admiring how consistently amazing she looks with any length.
