Ariana Grande’s Finger Tattoo Has Fans in a Heated Debate Over Its Meaning

At this point, we all know that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are not afraid of commitment. Besides their whirlwind romance and engagement, the pair has collectively gotten nine tattoos on their hands, heads, and feet that are dedicated to each other in some way. And now, fans think they've spotted a 10th tat honoring Grande and Davidson's love for each other.

According to Refinery29, folks first spotted new ink on Grande's left ring finger on July 11, while she was performing at the Amazon Music Unboxing Prime Day event in Brooklyn. A picture with the singer's hands on full display surfaced that same day, prompting all interested parties to do some FBI-caliber detective work, zooming in and attempting to clarify what exactly the tattoo says. The most popular theory about the dainty and distant text on Grande's finger is that it reads "Pete" in cursive lettering. The fact that the word is on the star's ring finger, highlighted by the nearly $100,000 engagement ring she got from Davidson, makes the argument for a sweet "Pete" stamp all the more compelling.

Not everyone is convinced, though. Some fans are making the case that the delicate script actually says "arte," which translates to "art" in Italian. Grande is, after all, an Italian-American artist.

Either explanation seems totally plausible. If you've listened to Grande's latest release, "God Is a Woman," which dropped Friday, you'll probably be firmly in the "arte" camp. On the other hand, Pete and Ariana have both made habits of dedicating prime real estate on their bodies to tattoos honoring each other. Clearly, we'll have to wait for more info from Grande or Davidson to definitively solve this mystery.

Of the nine (possibly 10) Peteiana-centric tats the couple have gotten, three are matching tattoos: They both have clouds on their fingers, "H2GKMO" (which stands for "honest to God, knock me out," a favorite phrase of Grande's) on their hands, and the word "Reborn" elsewhere on their hands. And just this week, Grande allegedly also got a tattoo honoring Davidson's father, a firefighter who died in the September 11 attacks, on her foot.
