It seems like no matter how much water I drink, I’m still thirsty. I can’t go anywhere without a bottle of water, and I drink over 3 liters of water a day. Is there something wrong with me?

Thirst is your body’s way of telling you that you need to replace fluids to prevent dehydration. You may become thirsty after eating salty or processed foods or after exercising. Some medications can also cause excessive thirst; however, thirst can also be a symptom of a medical condition. “Polydipsia” is the medical word for excessive thirst which can be the first sign that your body is not making enough insulin or not using it properly causing glucose to be higher than normal. Rarely there can be a problem with your pituitary gland that makes ADH (anti diuretic hormone) or a kidney problem. Make an appointment with your health care provider to get checked.​
