I’m 13 and I’ve grown a couple inches of back hair. Should I be concerned?

Thank you for your question. It is common for young men to develop back hair during puberty. During puberty your levels of certain hormones (including testosterone) increases. This leads to growth of body hair, including on your back, on your face, in your armpits (or axillae), and in your pubic area. The amount of body hair you have can also be influenced by your genetics.

It’s a good idea to tell your health care provider at your next visit. One way to bring it up is: “I’ve noticed that I have developed hair on my back. Is there a medical reason for this?”
