She’s not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom!
In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Jennifer Lopez opens up about returning as a judge to NBC’s competition World of Dance — and what her 11-year-old twins, Emme Maribel and Maximilian “Max” David, think of watching Mom on TV.
“I don’t know that they so much like to watch me on TV but they definitely love watching the young dancers,” says the singer, actress and dancer, 49. “This week they were screaming over The Kings, they couldn’t get over it. It’s exciting and it’s something we can do together.”
“It’s much like my experience with different shows I was on back in the day — where families can sit down and watch it together. And I love that,” Lopez shares.

Lopez has returned to the judging panel for season 3 of WOD — along with fellow judges NE-YO and Derek Hough— and couldn’t be more stoked for this third round.
“Producing this show and being one of the judges is one of my favorite things I get to do,” she says. “Having a front-row seat to this is amazing because I’m such a lover of dance. I love seeing all the new stuff that is out there. So when these kids come on and do things that literally blow my mind, it means everything to me.”
“I don’t really think people understand my love affair with dance — or maybe they do — it’s real,” Lopez explains. “It’s the real love. I just feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of creating something that not only benefits dancers but showcases them as the stars as they are.”
“There’s so much talent out there that doesn’t get seen,” she continues. “You see it now with the internet a little bit. I spend hours sometimes looking at dance videos of kids all over the world. I get lost in it! But people don’t know that it’s out there. There’s just so much talent out there. And they’re constantly innovating. They’re constantly pushing the envelope. The styles develop over the years, so what’s cool and what’s new is different this year than it was last year.”
On top of her WOD duties (and recent engagement to her beau of two years, Alex Rodriguez), Lopez will soon be celebrating another big milestone in July — she’s turning 50!
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month, she announced that her It’s My Party tour will traverse 24 cities across North America, kicking off in Los Angeles on June 7 and ending on July 26 in Miami, two days after the superstar’s birthday on July 24.
“I couldn’t think of what I would want to do for this big birthday,” she tells PEOPLE. “When this came up I was like, ‘You know, if we make it a birthday tour and we go across the United States and celebrate and do a limited amount of shows, I might be into that.’ “
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with my fans and dancing and singing every night for 20 nights! That sounds like a party to me!” Lopez enthuses. “I’m excited. I love doing shows and I love going out and seeing my fans and I haven’t done it in six years. It’s been a while.”

But not to worry — a birthday celebration with Rodriguez and the family is a must-have for Lopez, and will likely include both her children and the athlete’s daughters: Ella Alexander, 10, and Natasha Alexander, 14.
“I think the tour ends right in between mine and Alex’s birthday. We’ll probably have a big end-of-tour, joint birthday party for sure,” she adds. (Rodriguez turns 44 on July 27.)
The former Yankees player popped the question to Lopez over the weekend during their getaway in the Bahamas, with a friend of the couple telling PEOPLE, “Everyone is super happy for both of them.”
