It's set to be a super exciting night for Doja Cat at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. Not only is the singer a first-time nominee — up for top R&B song for her "Juicy" collab with Tyga — but she's also performing a selection of some of her best hits, which is bound to be amazing. Naturally then, she needed an epic beauty look for the big event, and her glam squad didn't disappoint. The team created a monochrome, pumpkin spice-toned look for Doja that includes a brand-new burnt orange hair color and warm, peachy-nude makeup to match.
"After seeing Doja's stunning peach and lilac dress, I made a little mood board of beautiful peachy bronze makeup looks to inspire her red carpet look, and she agreed," says makeup artist Adam Burrell in an exclusive interview with Allure about the "Say So" singer's look.
To create an even and glowy canvas on Doja, Burrell started by applying CoverGirl's Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation all over with a damp sponge. He then concealed with the brand's TruBlend Undercover Concealer in the shades Warm Honey and Perfect Beige (the latter color was used to brighten up her t-zone) before baking under her eyes with the TruBlend Minerals Loose Mineral Powder in Translucent. To set the rest of the face, he applied a light dusting of the Clean Fresh Pressed Powder in Medium.
Next, Burrell brushed through Doja's brows and applied CoverGirl's Easy Breezy Brow Sculpt Brow Pomade to slightly tint them. "Since Doja's a redhead tonight, I used the Honey Brown shade," he says. He then set her arches in place using the brand's Easy Breezy Brow Setting Gel in Clear.
For her ethereal eye look, Burrell used an array of peach shades from the TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Punch all over her lids. "I softly defined the socket with the warm brown shades and then diffused it seamlessly into the face by taking the color up towards the temples," he says. "Then I added extra depth to the lash line using the Intensify Me Eyeliner in Intense Black before applying Exhibitionist Mascara in Very Black to her lashes."
To subtly sculpt the singer's face, he applied the TruBlend So Flushed Bronzer in Sunset Glitz to the outer perimeter of her face and cheeks. "I made sure to take this through the eye sockets too, again to help create that seamless, dreamy glow," says Burrell. For blush, he used the TruBlend So Flushed Blush in Love Me blended with a bit of the Hot Frenzy shade for added brightness.
Finally, to wrap up the skin, he applied the Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Highlighter Stick in So Gilty to the tops of her cheekbones, brow bone, and cupid's bow. And to complete the look, he lined Doja's lips using the Exhibitionist Lip Liner in shades Caramel Nude and In The Nude. Then he topped off her lips with the Continuous Color Lipstick in Bronze Peach for a gorgeous burnt orange finish that's perfect for fall.
To complement her makeup, Doja wore her hair in a stunning orange-gold color that gives us major PSL vibes. Her go-to hair guy, Jared "JStayReady" Henderson, styled it ultra-straight and sleek with a strong middle part for a dramatic effect. Needless to say, the singer nailed her first look of the night and we can't wait to see what hair and makeup she unveils during her performances.
