I run cross country and my calves keep tightening. I’ve had deep tissue massages, used the roller, did strengthen exercises but nothing seem to help…I need some advice.
Muscle cramps during exercise can be due to a number of issues, including lack of blood flow to the area, dehydration, or changes in blood chemistry due to sweating. Start by warming up and stretching properly, and be sure to stay hydrated with lots of water. One common cause of leg cramps is a low potassium level. Try eating a banana or orange, or drinking a sports drink that contains electrolytes (however, be sure to watch out for extra sugar and calories in these drinks and choose a “light,” “zero,” or “diet” option if available). If none of these remedies work, talk to your health care provider.
