Hair loss treatment: Ginger helps to fight inflammation which could increase hair growth

This Morning: Dr Ranj discusses treatments for hair loss

There are many factors involved when it comes to a person losing their hair, both environmental and genetic, that conspire to cause hair loss. However, research has found certain ingredients block the mechanisms that cause hair loss. Could ginger help to increase hair growth?

Ginger contains circulatory agents that stimulate the flow of blood on the scalp, increasing blood circulation, which triggers the hair follicles and encourages new growth.

This way, it strengthens the hair from the root to the tip.

Ginger has essential fatty acids, which prevent your hair from thinning.

The herb is a popular medicine used in Eastern Asia who use it to promote hair growth.

One of the biggest benefits of ginger for hair is its ability to reduce scalp inflammation.

It’s thought that when scalp conditions clear up, hair growth may improve.

Ginger increases the scalp circulation that results in the flow of blood to the scalp.

It also stimulates the hair follicles and encourages growth.

The fatty acids in the ginger are beneficial for thin hair.

Ginger, aside from being a delicious ingredient in beverages, is also a spice with many health benefits including helping with digestion, nausea, and inflammation.

Kat Marcus, stylist and co-owner of Palm Sunday Salon, said: “Ginger contains some circulatory agents.

“These help to increase the blood flow through the scalp, which improves the growth of hair follicles.

“Fresh ginger root contains magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and vitamins that make hair stronger, healthier, and shinier. It is also rich in fatty acids which help prevent the thinning of hair.”

Hair mask

To make a ginger hair mask, you may use ginger juice, essential oil, or extract combined with equal parts of a carrier oil, such as argan, coconut, or jojoba.

Massage into the scalp and cover your hair evenly. Place a cap over your hair and leave on for up to 30 minutes before rinsing out.

If treating the scalp only, you may add something acidic to the mask, such as yogurt, lemon, or apple cider vinegar.

Supplement

Ginger supplements are available in the form of teas, capsules, and tablets.

When taking ginger by mouth, follow all product instructions carefully and discontinue if any gastrointestinal side effects occur.

Speak with a doctor before taking supplements of any kind. Keep in mind that ginger supplements haven’t been scientifically linked to hair growth.
