Hair within the follicle typically goes through a growth cycle that lasts about two to six years. Even if a person shaves or cuts their hair, the same hair will grow back out of the follicle from the root of the hair contained within the follicle. At the end of this cycle, the hair enters what is known as the resting phase before finally falling out a few months later. Then, the follicle produces new hair, and the cycle begins again. Drinking dandelion tea is said to help increase this process and aid in hair growth.
Dandelion root is a rich source of vitamin A, C and E as well as B-complex vitamins.
Dandelion also contains choline, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, biotin, and calcium.
All of these ingredients play a significant role in making one’s hair healthy, stronger and to help stimulate hair growth.
The polysaccharides found in dandelions possess anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties which help play a role in lowering levels of inflammation.
Dandelions help to reduce the production of pro inflammatory cytokines, which are compounds usually involved in the body’s inflammation.
“There are many different causes of hair loss,” says Dr Deborah Scott, assistant professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.
“Some are associated with inflammation in the body.”
This is why dandelion root may help with hair loss due to its inflammation fighting capabilities.
Free radicals are compounds that form in your body as a result of things like stress, pollution and a poor diet.
Over time, the accumulation of free radicals can lead to cell damage and chronic disease.
Antioxidants can help neutralise these harmful compounds and have been shown to reduce the risk of conditions like heart disease and cancer.
Studies show that dandelion root is especially high in antioxidants, which may account for its many potent health benefits including its ability to promote hair growth.
Dandelion hair tea helps hair grow faster by stimulating scalp circulation.
This helps the body regenerate skin cells, strengthens hair, and soothes an oversensitive scalp.
