Coronavirus protection: Expert weighs in on a certain vitamin which could help protect you

When it comes to infections or a virus such as flu, vitamin C has long been hailed to help protect the immunity. Vitamin C is essential for a healthy immune system, encouraging the production of white blood cells that fight disease, attaching themselves to, and killing invading microbes. Vitamin C levels quickly become depleted which means that if one wants to protect themselves against viruses and infections, upping their vitamin C intake is crucial.

The human body cannot make or store vitamin C so it’s relied on solely from food.

The NHS recommends healthy adults consume 40mg of vitamin daily.

Dr Thomas Levy, a U.S. cardiologist and author of Primal Panacea, a book dedicated to the power of vitamin C, said. “Vitamin C has been shown to prevent, put into remission and even cure many viral infections.

“Infections such as AIDS, ebola, encephalitis, hepatitis, herpes, pneumonia, polio, shingles and swine flu.”

How vitamin C helps with respiratory infection?

Dr Levy said: “Also called an upper respiratory infection, the common cold is caused by a virus that is passed from human to human.

“Irritation and swelling of the nasal passages and sinuses, scratchy throat and cough are the associated symptoms.

“Although the cold is considered to be incurable, it is self-limiting, meaning it eventually runs its course.

“Secondary infection is common and this can be serious to life threatening in the very young and the elderly.

“Drug companies have yet to develop any drugs that will reliably kill viruses. Instead, vaccination is modern medicine’s answer to viral infections.

“Without delving into the controversies surrounding vaccination, this strategy is not without significant health risks.

“In addition, many viruses, such as those causing influenza, can evolve into new strains that are unaffected by the antibodies that were developed in response to a previous vaccination.

“For example, this year’s flu vaccination – which was created from last year’s virus – may have little or no effect against the flu virus currently making the rounds.

“Given the fact that modern medicine has no effective therapy for all viral and many bacterial infectious diseases, why aren’t doctors turning though-dose vitamin C to save the lives of their patients?”

According to latest reports, taking vitamin C-rich baobab fruit powder every day may help ward off the coronavirus.

Baobab is an African super fruit that is exceptionally rich in vitamin C, essential for a healthy immune system.

In fact, high doses of vitamin C are being trialled to treat coronavirus patients in China.

As it is a raw whole food, the vitamin C in Baobab is more bioavailable than manufactured supplements ensuring a greater intake.

Unlike other fruits, it also has a natural shelf life of two years making it ideal for stockpiling.
